A private yacht charter is the ultimate escape from the ordinary, but packing for life aboard requires a different approach than your typical holiday. Here's part 2 of your guide to packing smart for your charter adventure.
Medications
Bring a complete supply of prescription medications plus extras in case of delays. Include seasickness remedies (both tablets and patches) and any personal medical supplies.
Personal Care
While most charter yachts provide basic toiletries, bring your preferred brands. Biodegradable soaps and shampoos are environmentally responsible choices for overboard drainage systems.
Power and Connectivity
Bring a universal power adapter and portable charging bank. While most modern yachts have abundant charging points, power may be limited during an under-sail passage or at anchor. Download offline maps and entertainment before departure—internet can be patchy in remote anchorages.
Diving
If you're particular about your snorkelling or diving equipment, bring your own mask, fins, and snorkel.
Travel Light Philosophy
· You'll likely wear half of what you pack. Charter life is beautifully simple—swimwear, cover-ups, and casual clothes dominate your wardrobe
· Leave Room for Memories: Reserve space in your luggage for souvenirs and that bottle of rum you discovered in a hidden beach bar
Communication Plan
While WiFi is increasingly available, remote anchorages may have limited connectivity. So share the yacht's satellite phone number with emergency contacts.
Leave Valuables at Home
Leave expensive jewelry, watches, and electronics at home. The relaxed charter lifestyle rarely calls for precious items, and you'll enjoy the freedom of not worrying about them.
Weather Contingency
Pack one warm layer even for tropical charters. Sea breezes at night can be surprisingly cool, and unexpected weather changes are part of the maritime experience.
