One of the seven natural wonders of the world and one of the greatest charter yacht destinations on the planet.
Stretching over 2,300 kilometres along Australia’s northeast coast, the Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system — a World Heritage Site comprising more than 3,000 individual reefs and hundreds of tropical islands. It’s the only living structure visible from space, and for good reason: there is simply nothing else like it on Earth.
Exploring it by charter yacht is an extraordinary privilege. Guests can snorkel and dive pristine reefs, take scenic helicopter or seaplane flights, join glass-bottom boat tours, watch humpback whales, and swim with dolphins — all from the comfort of their own vessel.
Southern Gateway: Lady Musgrave Island
At the southern end of the reef, Lady Musgrave Island is a jewel of an anchorage. This 14-hectare coral cay sits within a 1,192-hectare lagoon reef, offering a calm, sheltered berth that’s ideal for an overnight stay.
Ashore, the island is an ecological sanctuary — a nesting ground for green and loggerhead turtles and home to numerous seabird species. In the water, leopard sharks glide through the shallows alongside a dazzling array of tropical fish and flourishing coral gardens. For snorkellers, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Northern Retreat: Lizard Island
Some 150 miles north of Cairns, Lizard Island is the reef's northern gem — remote, unspoilt, and utterly captivating. Twenty-four white-sand beaches frame a magnificent turquoise lagoon, creating a backdrop that feels a world apart.
The surrounding reefs offer superb snorkelling and diving, while the island is widely regarded as one of Australia’s premier game-fishing destinations. Between September and December, anglers from around the world converge here for the chance to chase the legendary Black Marlin — one of the ocean’s ultimate angling challenges.
